Sound System Rental · Big Island, Hawaiʻi

Concert-scale sound, anywhere on the island.

We’re a lighting company, so for sound we bring in the best: our friends at The Big House Productions. Their full BASSBOSS rig — that’s it in the photo — is a wall of stacked subs with tall tops either side, run by their audio tech: the kind of system festival stages carry. It hits hard on the dance floor and stays clean enough that people a few steps away can still talk. Planning something smaller? It scales down for backyards and weddings too.

Need a DJ too? We can help you find one.

Loud, and you can still talk

The thing people notice first isn’t how loud it is. It’s that they can still hear each other.

Most party speakers start to crackle and smear when they’re pushed, so they get turned up to compensate, and by ten o’clock everyone is leaning in and shouting. A clean system doesn’t have that problem. The subwoofer carries the weight you feel in your chest, the top speakers stay clear, and the music reads as big without being harsh.

We aim it all at the dance floor. Step a few feet off it, toward the lounge, the bar or the dinner tables, and you can talk in a normal voice. Toasts land, grandparents stay, and nobody goes home hoarse.

Start with the big one

All of it comes through The Big House Productions, from the big rig down to a backyard setup, sized by guest count. Every system is delivered, set, sound-checked and packed out before your guests arrive.

Sound by The Big House Productions

We build light, not speakers. Every system on this page comes through our friends at The Big House Productions, and we’re glad it does: it means your night gets a real sound crew and a real lighting crew, each doing what they do best. Your booking stays simple — one conversation, one plan, one quote — and we coordinate it all so light and sound land together.

The part you feel

Outside, there are no walls to hold the low end, so even a loud speaker can sound thin. A subwoofer fills that in. It’s the part of the music you feel more than hear, and it lets us keep the volume at a level where people at the tables can still talk.

Why it sounds better than a typical rental

Most party rentals are one pair of big speakers on stands, turned all the way up. This is built around BASSBOSS, the kind of system touring DJs and festival stages carry, scaled to fit your yard. Reggae, house, hip-hop, slack key, a live band, your wedding playlist: every song sounds the way the artist meant it to.

We sound-check every system on site before your guests arrive, and we set it for the space you’re in (a yard, a tent, a ballroom), not a one-size setting.

Conversation stays possibleClean sound doesn’t need to be cranked, so the floor can be loud while the tables stay easy to talk at.
Full, not just loudBass you feel, vocals that stay clear, no crackle when the floor gets going.
Easy on the earsIt stays clean as it gets louder, so the music is comfortable to be around all night.

What people book it for

Birthdays & backyards
A playlist from your phone, a mic for the toast, and bass people actually feel. Add the Mushroom and guests have a place to sit and gather between songs.
Weddings
Ceremony mics the back row can hear, toasts, then the first dance and a full floor. Your DJ or band plugs straight in, or we book one for you.
Shows & DJ nights
The Big House Productions’ full BASSBOSS system for live sets and DJs, outdoor stages and late nights, with the Jellyfish over the crowd.
Private events
Anniversaries, reunions, estate and ranch parties, and holiday gatherings.
Community nights
Fundraisers, speeches and announcements, raffles and live music.

How sound pairs with the sculptures

A good party usually has two areas: somewhere comfortable to sit and talk, and somewhere to dance. The sculpture becomes the first. The sound builds the second. Because we place both, they work together instead of fighting: the lounge stays easy to talk in, the floor stays full, and the light moves with the music. Here’s how we lay it out.

The Mushroom + sound

The Mushroom is the lounge, a glowing place to sit, talk and take it all in. The dance floor gets its own spot across the yard, with the speakers aimed right at it.

The Jellyfish + sound

The Jellyfish glows overhead as the gathering spot, somewhere to look up, take photos and catch your breath. The dance floor sits just beyond it, where the music hits hardest.

One crew, one arrival time, one power plan for everything, so nothing fights for an outlet.

We keep speakers out of the main sightlines and the cables tidy, and set the light to move with the music, so your photos show the party, not the equipment.

The Mushroom for the lounge and the Jellyfish over the floor is the full setup: a place to gather and a place to dance, with a DJ running the night.

Good to know

Will people still be able to talk?
Yes. That’s the main reason to rent a better system. Cheap speakers distort when they’re turned up, so they get pushed harder and everyone ends up shouting. Ours stay clean, so the dance floor can be properly loud while the lounge and tables a few steps away stay at a normal speaking voice. We aim the speakers at the floor and set the levels on site.
How do I know what size system I need?
Start with three things: how many guests, indoors or outdoors, and whether there’ll be dancing. Up to about 80 guests in a yard, the Backyard setup is plenty. Weddings and private events of roughly 80 to 250 need the bigger system with microphones. Past 250, or a real dance floor running late, is the big night: the full BASSBOSS rig from The Big House Productions. Tell us those three things and we’ll size it for you.
Do I need a subwoofer?
For background music, a dinner or speeches, no. A pair of tall column speakers covers a yard evenly and sounds great on its own. For dancing, yes: the sub is the part you feel in your chest, and it’s the difference between music playing and a party. Tell us what the night is and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s worth it.
Why would a smaller speaker sound better than a bigger one?
Because size isn’t the same as quality. We carry three kinds of top speaker, and every package sits on a BASSBOSS 15-inch subwoofer. Turbosound iP300 columns are the compact option: slim, even coverage across a yard. Turbosound iQ15s are big 15-inch speakers that carry plenty of low end themselves, so they’re the pick when the night is louder or you want more weight. BASSBOSS 9-inch tops are the premium choice: smaller than the iQ15, but with the sub handling the bass they only have to do vocals and mids, and they do it cleaner, with less harshness when it’s loud. Add a second sub to any of them for more bass.
Can I just play music from my phone?
Yes. The Backyard setup takes Bluetooth, so you can run a playlist from your phone. A DJ controller or a microphone plugs straight in too.
Do I need a DJ?
No. Plenty of backyard parties run on a playlist. A DJ helps when there’s a dance floor, a run of show, or announcements that need timing. Need one? We can book you one of the island’s best DJs and set them up on our system. Bringing your own DJ or band? They plug straight in, and we can add a DJ deck if your DJ isn’t bringing one.
Will it be too loud for the neighbors?
A good system is clearer, not just louder. A subwoofer lets you feel the music at a level where people can still talk at their tables. We set the levels on site, and we aim the speakers toward the party and away from the neighbors. Many venues and neighborhoods have quiet hours, so check yours and tell us; we’ll plan around it.
Do you provide microphones for speeches?
Yes. The wedding and private event system includes wireless microphones for the ceremony, toasts and announcements. For a backyard party, ask and we’ll add one.
What does it need for power?
A standard outdoor outlet runs the Backyard setup. Bigger systems draw more, so tell us what power the venue has and we’ll plan it before the day.
Can I book sound without the Mushroom or Jellyfish?
Yes. Sound books on its own through our partners at The Big House Productions. Booking it with a sculpture just makes it one package, one quote and one setup, with the speakers placed so they stay out of the photos.
Do you offer a sound and lighting package?
Yes. Pair the sound with the Mushroom or the Jellyfish and it becomes one booking, one crew and one quote. We place the speakers and the sculpture together so the dance floor gets the volume and the lounge stays easy to talk in, and both are set up before guests arrive and packed out after. You can add DJ booking help too.
How far ahead should I book?
As early as you can, especially for weekends and wedding season. If your date is close, ask anyway; sometimes it’s open.
